The CMA and foreign brokers

The Capital Markets Authority is Kenya's regulator of capital markets. This page records what three of its public lists showed when read, what a fourth did not allow, and one thing none of them contained: a statement about copy trading. It states no position of the CMA on copy trading, because none was read.
What was read, and when
The register of licensees at licensees.cma.or.ke was read on 5 November 2026: 158 rows, each with a name, a category and a licence number. The caution page at cma.or.ke, headed "Public Caution Against Investment Scams" and dated 11 September 2026, was read on 6 November 2026: 15 names. The page of public notices was read the same day: 5 titles, the newest of them dated 18 November 2025. The list of press releases could not be read: the server answered with an error (HTTP 502) on 6 November 2026.
The caution page and the register are the two lists that name firms. The public-notice page carries titles of documents, which this site stored as titles only.
No CMA position on copy trading was read
Of the 5 public-notice titles, none contains the words copy, mirror, social or forex. The caution page names firms and carries the heading above; the register names licensed firms and their categories. None of them states how the CMA treats copy trading, copy-trading platforms or the providers on them. The press-release list, where such a statement could appear, was not readable. This is therefore a statement about what was read and not about what exists: a statement may exist where this site did not look, and the absence of one on the pages read means neither that copy trading is permitted nor that it is not. The route to the answer is to ask the CMA, and to ask the firm that offers the account.
Categories in the register, as the register names them
Counts of the 158 rows of licensees.cma.or.ke, 5 November 2026. The category names are the register's; this site does not say what a licence in any category permits.
| Category | Rows |
|---|---|
| fund-manager | 54 |
| investment-adviser | 32 |
| investment-bank | 23 |
| non-dealing-forex-broker | 14 |
| derivatives-broker | 12 |
| stockbroker | 10 |
| authorised-securities-dealer | 8 |
| forex-money-manager | 3 |
| dealing-forex-broker | 2 |
Two category names that mention forex
The register has a category named non-dealing-forex-broker, with 14 rows, and a category named forex-money-manager, with 3 rows, as well as dealing-forex-broker with 2. Those are the register's own labels and are given as labels. This site does not say that copy trading falls under any of them, nor that it does not.
Names compared by this site
Comparisons are on names only, with case, spaces and punctuation ignored. A match of names is not a finding that two entities are the same, and a non-match is not a finding either. Readings: 5 November 2026 and 6 November 2026.
| Comparison | Result |
|---|---|
| Brokers of cTrader's copy list (24) whose whole name is the name of a caution-page entry (15) | 0 |
| Brokers of the list whose name is contained in the name of a register entry (register rows: 158) | 3 |
| Brokers of the list that print "CMA Kenya" among their regulators | 1 |
| Register entries whose name contains "FxPro" | 0 |
Reading the comparison
3 of the 24 brokers on cTrader's copy list carry a name that sits inside a register entry's name; that is a pointer to ask which legal entity would hold a given account, nothing more. 1 prints the CMA among its regulators. FxPro is not matched by any register row. The FxPro page of this site carries the wording that FxPro is not licensed by the CMA and that the group is authorised elsewhere. On 6 November 2026 cTrader's list printed "FCA UK; SCB - SIA Bahamas" for FxPro.
How a reader checks a firm
Ask the firm for the full legal name of the company that would hold the account and for its licence number, if it says it has one. Search that name on the register at licensees.cma.or.ke. Look at the caution page for the name as well. If the company is not on the register, the register does not show it as licensed in Kenya; whether it needs to be, for the service in question, is a question for the CMA. This site cannot answer it.

Questions about the machine and its costs
Does the CMA say copy trading is allowed?
No statement on copy trading was found in the lists read. This site states no CMA position.
Is a firm absent from the register unlicensed?
The register does not show it as licensed in Kenya. Whether a licence is needed for a given service is for the CMA to say.
Is a firm on the caution page a broker on cTrader's list?
By whole name, 0 of the 24 brokers are. That compares names only.
Why was the press-release list not read?
The server answered with HTTP 502 on 6 November 2026; nothing was retried beyond the one reading.
The broker this site links to
This site links to FxPro, which cTrader's list marks as a copy-enabled broker. A copied trade is a leveraged contract on a price, not ownership of anything. Whether the copy service is open to a resident of Kenya is a question for FxPro.
